'Create content that genuinely respects the people reading it'

David Olajide, London-based senior marketing manager at CIPR corporate affiliate agency Curzon PR, has worked in PR for eight years. He explains his love for the industry and the benefits that the CIPR brings to the team.

What does your current role involve?
I lead content and strategy for the Curzon brand across all our digital platforms. I also oversee internal comms, making sure our team stays connected, informed and inspired. At the heart of it all, I create content that genuinely respects the people reading it. That’s always the goal, telling stories that mean something.

What do you love most about working in public relations?
I genuinely believe a lot of the world’s problems come from miscommunication. So being able to use this skill – this gift – to help people and businesses communicate better, with clarity and kindness, is something I’ll never take for granted.

What's been the highlight of your career so far?
Co-producing Stories and Strategies, the world’s most listened-to PR podcast, has been a real joy. I’ve loved every part of the process, from shaping the stories to hearing the voices behind them. Each week, we tackle the real issues shaping the global PR and comms industry, alongside guests who are out there leading the change.

How long have you been a CIPR member and what made you join?
Two years. At Curzon, we prioritise continuous learning, so becoming corporate members felt like a natural step. The training and resources that the CIPR offers are solid, practical, smart, and worth the time.

How does the CIPR support your career?
It’s a place to stay grounded and grow at the same time. The CPD resources, webinars, and wider community help me stay connected to the industry, while also pushing me to keep evolving.

Best piece of career advice you’ve been given?
“Write the way you speak, then polish.” It reminds me to start human, not formal, and work from there.
