‘The CIPR’s CPD resources strengthen my practice’

In this CIPR member spotlight, we meet Emmanuel Kisolo, a communications lead at Youth With a Mission (YWAM). Based in Harpenden, he’s spent nine years immersed in PR.

What does your current role involve?

My work focuses on strategic communications and engagement within an international charity context. I help shape messaging, guide content strategy, and support teams communicating across different regions and cultures. A key part of the work involves strengthening digital storytelling, community engagement, and helping organisations communicate their impact clearly to partners, supporters, and wider audiences.

What do you love most about working in public relations?

I enjoy shaping stories and narratives which help organisations express who they are and why their work matters. Public relations sits at the intersection of identity, trust, and public understanding. Through storytelling, narrative development, and branding, I help organisations bring their values and purpose into the open so people connect with them and their mission.

What's been the highlight of your career so far?

One highlight involved working across cultures and sectors, helping organisations communicate in ways which create real impact. Early in my career, I supported campaigns in east Africa which helped millions of people better understand insurance and the importance of financial protection. Later, I worked with international charities in the US and the UK to strengthen how they communicate their work and engage supporters. Seeing communication shift awareness across cultures continues to shape how I approach the profession.

How long have you been a CIPR member and what made you join?

I joined the CIPR about a month ago. I wanted to connect with a wider network of communications professionals, learn from others in the field, and continue developing my practice through CPD. Being part of CIPR has already given me valuable perspective, shared learning, and the chance to grow alongside peers across the profession.

How does the CIPR support your career?

CIPR supports my career through professional development, learning, and connection with peers across the communications profession. The CPD resources strengthen my practice and help me stay aware of how the field continues to evolve. The network also creates space to learn from experienced practitioners and exchange ideas around strong and responsible communications.

Best piece of career advice you’ve been given?

Stay curious and keep learning. When you remain hungry for knowledge and open to growth, new opportunities tend to follow.
